MILLROY TAKES PODIUM
ANOTHER PODIUM OF THE SEASON AT KNOCKHILL
Formula Renault UK 2010 – Rounds 15 & 16 (Knockhill).
Ollie Millroy’s visit to Knockhill this weekend was his first ever, so Ollie’s main focus was to learn the track, and settle in as quickly as possible.
Qualifying showed his immediate comfort with the car and the track by setting an impressive pace in both sessions, starting 5th for Race 1 and 2, ahead of all his team mates.
In Race 1 Ollie got a good start and managed to squeeze up to 4th, setting a consistent pace, Ollie was approaching Riki Christodoulou to take 3rd, before team mate Lewis Williamson miss-judged a pass on Tincknell and out braked himself and hit Ollie from the side taking both himself and Ollie out of Race 1.
In Race 2 Ollie again got a great start behind 4th place man Alex Lynn, with a small first corner incident, Ollie grabbed 4th and stayed out of trouble. Within 2 laps Ollie was on Lynn’s tail. Exiting the fast chicane Lynn made a mistake and Ollie took full advantage and passed him taking 3rd.
Two safety car periods were thrown during Race 2 which bunched the pack up and put more pressure on Ollie. Once released again from the safety car, on the final corner 1st and 2nd place came to scraps falling into Ollie’s jaws. Ollie managed to slip-stream into 2nd but had to defend his outside line as well so eventually lost out on his 2nd place bout. Overall Ollie bought home a very well earned 3rd place and set the fastest lap for Race 2.
Ollie commented after the race;“I had a great Race 2, shame about the first one but these things happen. The safety cars in Race 2 were crazy, its like we had 3 first laps, you really had to be on your toes, but I’m pleased with the podium, I’ve had a great weekend, car has been great, team were awesome and I think its been the first weekend without rain so that’s always a bonus! Let’s have more of these!”
